All American brands have been reinvigorating themselves by taking a step back into their archives. Much like Calvin Klein, Fila (though it has Italian roots) have launched a new collection bringing back their bucket hats and baggy overalls. They even went as far as collaborating with Urban Outfitters (FILA + UO). At Urban you’ll see a range of redone retro pullovers, clean lines, and some special standout garments. As a brand that commenced in sportswear with a fashion sensibility, it’s now attesting to be a fashion brand in itself- with a sportswear guidance that’s firmly grounded in fashion both past and present. Though the sportswear/athletic leisure phenomenon has been going strong for a year and a half or so, 2017 is when the high fashion collections of Gosha Rubchinskiy and Vetements featured another collaboration with Fila amongst other sportswear brands such as Champion and Reebok. Not only has Fila turned out new collaborations with Urban Outfitters and Vetements they’ve also launched a vintage-inspired “Black Line” collection along with their revamped Heritage line. The 90’s nostalgia has definitely been a fun thing to see, relive, and see how old styles will be turned into new ones.
