Do you find yourself throwing away your empty beauty containers after they’re done being used? For most yes, but let me ask you this, have you ever thought about repurposing some of those containers? Nowadays we consume so many products but often just toss the jars aside once they’re done. Here you’ll find some examples of what you could do with your empties!

Candle Jars:
Depending on the size of your candle jars you can either use them for holding q-tips, bobby pins, pens, makeup brushes, etc. However, if you have a candle that comes with a lid, try storing dry goods in there such as teas, coffees, packaged snacks, etc. The options are endless with these. They also make great vases or DIY planters for houseplants.

If you’re having trouble getting the candle wax to lift once you’re completely done using it, try sitting the jar in hot water until the wax softens. Then take a butter knife and begin to remove the wax and wick. Either throw in the dishwasher (if the jar is dishwasher safe) or simply wash with soapy water.

Tinctures/ Dropper Bottles:
If you’ve been to any apothecary or reusable shop, I’m sure you’ve seen an array of amber glass dropper bottles, so instead of buying them why not repurpose them? You can easily convert these old bottles and use them for a DIY aromatherapy massage oil blend, use it for cooking (making your own infused oils) or

If you have any serums, tinctures, or facial oils that contain a dropper simply place the glass bottle and dropper into a pot of boiling water for ten to fifteen minutes to remove any excess oils or residue. Remove containers with thongs and let them air dry before using them.

Mist Bottles:
Repurposing spray bottles (hello rose water), is a fun way to either make your own new facial mist, aromatic room spray or simply use the old spray bottle to mist your houseplants! You can also use these jars to create mini propagating stations for your plants, just be sure the bottles are thoroughly clean before repurposing.

Mascara Wands/Tubes:
If you can’t find a way to properly reuse or dispose of your mascara wands, Wands for Wildlife is a nonprofit organization that collects clean mascara wands to help support wildlife rehabilitation, such as cleaning fly eggs off of fur and feathered animals. These clean wands are “shared with wildlife rehabilitators to use in their work to save injured and orphaned wild animals.” If you’re interested in donating your wand, clean it with soapy water to remove residual mascara and dry completely before packaging. Other Misc Beauty Jars:
If your containers have lids, try collecting your hair ties, earrings, or any other item that’s easily lost in your bathroom cabinet. You can even repurpose some of these jars for your kitchen by decanting your favorite items in them.

Beauty Recycle Programs:
It’s also worth mentioning that most of your favorite beauty brands all have recycle programs, so just be sure to ask! One that I utilize a lot is Follain’s TerraCycle program. They allow you to dispose of any cleaned beauty product (shampoo, body wash, skincare container) in order to receive a discount off of your next purchase.
